The Dayton Metro Library is once again sponsoring two fine arts contests for teens, so take your pick! We have a Fiction Writing Contest and our annual Design-a-Poster Contest. Here's what you need to know...

The Teen Fiction Writing Contest
Open to all area teens in grades 7 - 12

Write an original short story on the theme of your choice, 2000 words or less. Winners will be chosen in two grade categories: 7-8 and 9-12. For each age category, the prizes are $100 for first place, $75 for second place, and $50 for third place, courtesy of the Friends of the Library. Winners and honorable mentions will also have their stories printed in a collection circulated at the Dayton Metro Library where people throughout Montgomery County can enjoy the winning entries.

The Teen Design a Poster Contest
Open to all area teens grades 7 through 12.

Create an original poster to illustrate the Dayton Metro Library’s 2010 Teen Summer Reading Club theme: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Read @ Your Library. The winning design will be used in other Teen Summer Reading Club promotional materials such as bookmarks, certificates and postcards and will appear on the cover of the teen fiction contest publication. In addition to being printed, the top winner will receive $100 for first place, $75 for second place, and $50 for third place, courtesy of the Friends of the Library.

Both contests run from September through December 12, 2009. Submissions can be dropped off at any Dayton Metro Library location, but must contain a completed entry form. Entry forms are available at all Dayton Metro Libraries locations.

For more information on the contests, contact Gretchen Yonata at (937) 463-BOOK (2665).
